What To Expect When We Work Together

Our work together begins with an intake consultation, either over the phone or in person, prior to your session. We’ll discuss your unique concerns and discomforts, and your desired outcome and which techniques might best help you achieve your desired outcome.

Maybe you have work stress your shoulders feel like they’re up around your ears and you just want to feel relaxed for an hour. There’s nothing like a Therapeutic Massage to relax your tension and regulate your nervous system quickly so that you can feel like yourself again.

Or perhaps you’re pregnant and would like a Prenatal Massage from a certified practitioner to help you feel calm, relaxed and connected with your baby or to help you find relief from typical pregnancy issues like sciatica, lower back pain, neck and shoulder pain, leg pain, etc.

If you’ve had neck and shoulder pain or back pain in the same place for a year (or a decade or two), and you’ve given up hope of ever feeling better, then The Feldenkrais Method® is designed to help improve chronic musculoskeletal pain or tension that has been with you for a longer period of time.

Maybe you’ve recovered from an injury or surgery, but have never felt “normal” since. Or maybe you started with a small area of pain, and over time, your pain has expanded to several areas and knowing where to begin or which specialist to go to feels overwhelming.

You may have been to experts — doctors have offered you medication or surgery. Physical therapists have offered you stretches or deep pressure. Chiropractors and other health care professionals may have given you relief for a short period of time, but now you’ve resigned yourself that you may never feeling at ease in your body again, and you may never be able to do the activities you once enjoyed.

Functional Integration, the hands-on aspect of The Feldenkrais Method®, works with your brain and nervous system, the part of your system that directs your muscles to contract.

You see, your brain is the control center of your body, and when your brain perceives instability somewhere in your body,  it instructs your muscles to “contract” or “grip” the bones in order to stabilize body overall. You feel this as muscular pain or tension.

In order to for these unconscious muscle contractions to release, your brain has to perceive safety in your body. When your brain senses there is no threat to your entire organism, it will instruct those gripping muscles to let go…spontaneously.

Lasting relief does not result from cracking your bones, or pressing on and stretching your muscles.

It comes from working with your brain and nervous system through small, slow, gentle movements based on human development and innate reflexes.

Lasting relief comes from listening to and trusting the innate wisdom your nervous system.

What My Clients Say:

Even during the online class yesterday I began to feel broader and looser in my shoulders, as if the tension in my muscles was loosening, and at the same time, I felt more stable. Today, I feel I’m moving and sitting with more ease.

How Soon Will I Notice Results?

Many of my clients find relief after a single session, but you may benefit from a series of sessions depending on the level of discomfort you currently experience, and how long you’ve been experiencing that discomfort. If you’re recovering from an injury or surgery, want to increase your athletic performance, or you live with chronic stress, anxiety, or pain, consider a package of 10 sessions within a concentrated period of time, to get started.
